Mudzuri Speaks After Thursday’s Harvest House Briefing Failure

Eng. Elias Mudzuri, a senior figure in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), addressed the media today following the abrupt cancellation of a planned press conference that was scheduled for Thursday, December 5th, 2025, at Harvest House, the party’s headquarters.

The briefing, which was highly anticipated, was meant for the JOMIC team leader, Chimanikire, to update journalists on the steps and current state of the MDC.

Mudzuri confirmed the cancellation, stating that “security challenges” cited by Mr. Mukoyi at Harvest House were the cause.

Mudzuri used the opportunity to reinforce a message of unity and the proper role of the party’s central office. “Harvest House is not a place of battles; it is a place where we are all housed as MDC members and the country at large when it comes to matters of MDC,” he asserted, expressing hope that the media would be called back to the venue soon.

The political process following a recent High Court judgment remains a priority. Mudzuri confirmed that two teams—one from the “Applicants Team” led by him and another from the “Mwonzora team”—had achieved an agreement to set up a procedure leading to a Congress.

This setup involves a steering committee, which Chimanikire was expected to announce either Thursday or today to get the process underway.
However, Mudzuri’s ultimate focus lies beyond the internal feuding.

“I am more worried about the Zimbabwean population—all people who want to see MDC going,” he declared. He positioned the current push as an essential struggle “to bring back MDC what it used to be,” citing the party’s historical significance dating back to 1999.

He warned that the country’s fragmented opposition currently lacks the strength to challenge the ruling party.

“As you can see today there is no single party that is strong to challenge Zanu-PF in 2028.” He urged followers to answer the call to rejuvenate the MDC, stating that forming new parties would be senseless.

In a critical update on the control of the headquarters, Mudzuri noted a recent victory: “Mr. Mwonzora again failed in an attempt to remove Mr. Mukoyi at Harvest House. Yesterday the judgement came and the application was struck off.”

This reinforces the message that Harvest House must remain a neutral meeting place, not a “battle ground” for factions.
