HARARE — President Dr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa has expressed deep sadness following the passing of Ms. Linda Tsungirai Masarira, the leader of the opposition Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) party. In a heartfelt condolence message issued on May 25, 2026, the President described her departure as a monumental loss to her family, the women of Zimbabwe, and the nation at large.

On behalf of the ruling party, ZANU PF, the Government, and the people of Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa extended his deepest sympathies to the Masarira family, urging them to find solace in her legacy of service.

”May they find strength in the knowledge that their daughter, sister, mother and compatriot served her country with conviction and courage,” the President said.

A Fearless Voice for National Unity

President Mnangagwa capably highlighted Masarira’s role as a bold, outspoken, and fearless figure in Zimbabwe’s political and civic arenas. He praised her unwavering commitment to defending Zimbabwe’s national sovereignty and her persistent advocacy for dialogue, constitutionalism, and national unity.

At a time when the country required balanced and sober perspectives, Masarira stood out as a progressive force. Through her extensive work in civil society, the media, and her active participation in the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), she championed a national narrative centered on peace, development, and constructive political engagement.

A Legacy for Future Generations

The President emphasized that Masarira’s political journey served as a vital blueprint for political tolerance in Zimbabwe. He noted that she successfully demonstrated how citizens from diverse political backgrounds could disagree constructively without becoming enemies, always prioritizing the common good of the nation.

In closing, President Mnangagwa expressed hope that her trailblazing legacy would inspire the next generation, particularly young women, to participate actively and responsibly in national governance. He prayed for comfort for the grieving family as the entire nation shares in their loss.

”May her soul rest in eternal peace,” the President concluded.
