Powering Zimbabwe’s Digital Future: NetOne at the Forefront of the AI Revolution

 Tendai Keith Guvamombe

At a landmark industry gathering, NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer Eng. Raphael Mushanawani delivered a visionary address outlining how the telecommunications giant is anchoring Zimbabwe’s transition into the Fourth Industrial Revolution through intelligent connectivity. Speaking to a distinguished audience—including the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. T. Mavetera, and industry leaders—the GCEO emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become the most transformative force of our time.

A central theme of the address was the codependency of emerging technologies and infrastructure. While AI represents the next great leap in human progress, the GCEO noted that its true power can only be unlocked through robust networks. “Without networks, there is no digital economy,” he stated, positioning NetOne at the very heart of this technological shift.

The speech highlighted the pivotal launch of Zimbabwe’s National AI Policy earlier this year, framing it as a watershed moment for national development. NetOne has fully embraced this government vision, aligning its sustained investments in intelligent networks with the country’s broader Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

Internally, NetOne is already shifting from reactive to predictive operations. By deploying AI, the operator can anticipate network congestion, self-heal faults before they impact consumers, optimize real-time performance, and reinforce cybersecurity defenses against sophisticated modern threats.

Crucially, the GCEO stressed that technology is meaningless unless it improves lives. Instead of widening the digital divide, AI must serve as a bridge to expand essential services to underserved areas. By ensuring digital transformation reaches every corner of the nation, NetOne aims to turn AI into a tool for empowerment, innovation, and inclusion.

Concluding the powerful address, the GCEO reaffirmed that the future of telecommunications belongs to smarter, adaptive networks. Moving beyond merely connecting devices, NetOne is dedicated to connecting people to opportunities, communities to knowledge, and Zimbabwe to a secure, inclusive digital future.
