NetOne Mobilises Communities Across Zimbabwe for Mega National Clean-Up Campaign

By Tendai Keith Guvamombe

NetOne proudly joined thousands of Zimbabweans across the country in commemorating the Mega National Clean-Up Campaign, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible corporate citizenship and national development through coordinated clean-up activities in Harare, Chitungwiza, Masvingo, Bindura, Bulawayo, Nyanga and Zvishavane.

Held in support of the national clean-up initiative championed by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the campaign reflects Zimbabwe’s collective commitment to building cleaner, healthier and more sustainable communities in line with National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030. The initiative brought together NetOne employees, local authorities, schools and community members in a powerful demonstration of unity and shared responsibility.

The success of the campaign was strengthened through strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including City Councils and educational institutions such as Quinton Junior School in Chitungwiza and Herentials College in Bindura. Their participation underscored the importance of instilling environmental consciousness in future generations while showcasing the impact that collaborative action can have in preserving Zimbabwe’s communities and public spaces.

One of the campaign’s highlights was the clean-up exercise in Nyanga, one of Zimbabwe’s premier tourism destinations renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. Protecting such iconic destinations is essential not only for environmental preservation but also for safeguarding Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, promoting economic growth and preserving the country’s natural heritage. Every piece of litter removed contributes to a cleaner environment and reinforces Zimbabwe’s image as a welcoming destination for both local and international visitors.

Speaking during the campaign, NetOne Spokesperson, Mr. Ernest Magadzire, said environmental stewardship is inseparable from the organisation’s mandate of connecting people while creating sustainable communities.

“As Zimbabwe’s network of choice, our responsibility extends beyond providing reliable connectivity. Every NetOne recharge voucher, SIM card packaging and promotional material that is carelessly discarded has the potential to pollute the very communities we serve. Through initiatives such as the Mega National Clean-Up Campaign, we are encouraging every Zimbabwean to become a responsible environmental steward by disposing of waste responsibly. Protecting destinations such as Nyanga is particularly important because our environment is one of our greatest national assets. Clean communities promote tourism, improve public health, strengthen local economies and create a better Zimbabwe for generations to come.”

As a responsible corporate citizen, NetOne continues to champion environmental sustainability as a key pillar of its Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, recognising that national development is built not only through digital transformation but also through safeguarding the environment. The organisation remains committed to mobilising communities, strengthening stakeholder partnerships and inspiring a culture of responsible citizenship across Zimbabwe.

Beyond connecting people through innovative telecommunications solutions, NetOne continues to connect communities to a cleaner future. Through collective action, strategic partnerships and unwavering commitment to national priorities, the company remains at the forefront of initiatives that protect the environment, enhance community well-being and contribute meaningfully to building the prosperous, upper-middle-income Zimbabwe envisioned under Vision 2030.
