Empowering Zimbabwe’s Media: Capacity Building on AI in Journalism
Yesterday, journalists gathered in Harare for an insightful Capacity Building Workshop on the Application of AI in Journalism, hosted by the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC).
It was an action-packed day dedicated to equipping media practitioners with the tools needed to navigate the digital era responsibly and effectively.

Key highlights from the programme included:
The AI Revolution: Deep dives into understanding artificial intelligence, its role in modern newsrooms, and practical tools for content creation, translation, and transcription.
Ethics & Responsibility: Critical discussions on the ethical use of AI, tackling misinformation and disinformation, and ensuring verification and accountability.
Freedom of Information (FOIA): A vital session exploring the Freedom of Information framework in Zimbabwe, journalist rights, and our role in promoting transparency.
Multimedia Storytelling: Exploring the power of data journalism and sharing best practices for ethical and inclusive reporting.

ZMC remain in touch with field journalists and stay conversant with both emerging trends and the challenges journalists face.
A special acknowledgment goes to Nyaradzo Hazangwi, ZMC Director of Media Development and Governance, and Talent Chimutambgi, ZMC Training and Standards Development Officer, for their leadership in fostering this essential learning space.
As technology continues to evolve, staying informed and ethical remains at the heart of what we do.
