The Founder and President of Destiny of Afrika Network (DANet), Rev. Dr. Obedia Musindo, has strongly condemned the planned July 31, 2026 demonstrations, stating that the acts violate people’s rights. He urged law enforcement agencies to be firm in maintaining law and order across the country.
Speaking to this publication on Tuesday, Dr. Musindo reiterated the importance of law enforcement agents, such as the police, maintaining peace to protect the majority from a minority seeking to unprocedurally risk lives.
”The police are obligated and mandated by the constitution—the same constitution being quoted by those planning demonstrations. The purpose of the police is to maintain law and order, because without law and order, society will easily descend into chaos or anarchy,” said Dr. Musindo.
He explained why the police turned down the notifications for demonstrations, noting that security agencies act on intelligence information when assessing how a situation could culminate in animosity and violence.
”When the police stop something and say ‘don’t do it,’ they are acting on gathered intelligence that is not in the public domain. They understand and know these people better than us, the ordinary citizens of this country. They know who is being paid, and as the Bible says, the King does not bear the sword in vain in Romans Chapter 13.”
Dr. Musindo reiterated the importance of faith leaders praying for and supporting authorities in power, adding that maintaining law and order is a divine responsibility.
”We are bound and obligated as pastors to pray for those in authority so that we live in peace. To maintain law and order is godly. Regarding your rights to peacefully demonstrate, if the police say no, they know based on intelligence that the proposed plans will not be peaceful.”
He further stressed how the Bill of Rights functions, detailing why individual freedoms must not infringe upon the rights of others.
”There is no real cause or major drive behind this demonstration; people are tired. People want to hear issues regarding financial solutions. People want to work, and while you are busy calling for demonstrations, the police are saying no, which shows aggression. That alone shows you have a hidden agenda. Your rights should not interfere with or infringe upon other people’s rights.”
”We have so many rights, such as freedom of movement and the right to be protected by the law. But if the law prohibits you from conducting demonstrations due to safety issues, and the majority say they do not want demonstrations, it means you are abusing your individual rights and violating the rights of others in the process.”
Those planning demonstrations were urged to realize that rights also extend to children, schoolgoers, vendors, and the day-to-day essential movement of goods and commodities. Collective rights, he noted, should not be subdued by the views of a minority.
”So I am saying, when your rights are bound to violate other people’s rights, law enforcement agencies are acting within their constitutional duties to maintain control for the safety of the majority—children going to school, vendors, believers attending all-night prayers, the movement of goods, and churchgoers. Otherwise, you are violating their rights and posing a threat to people’s property. Your constitutional rights are not allowed to interfere with other people’s rights.”
Dr. Musindo strongly condemned the planned acts, concluding:
”No to the planned July 31 demonstrations, because behind them are forces waiting to unleash violence in our country. Personally, I am encouraging law enforcement agents to be tough in order to protect the majority of citizens. Do not allow a few individuals to shut down businesses. Is my company included in their plans? Shutting down my tuckshop? This demonstration interferes with our right to peace and freedom of worship.”
