Dorothy Madziya, Director of Engineering Services in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and a proud member of Zimbabwe Women in Engineering, shared her insights on the crucial role women play in the nation’s development.

With the conference theme “Together We Engineer – Promoting Collaboration to Achieve a More Inclusive and Diverse Engineering Future,” Eng. Madziya emphasized the importance of collaborative platforms for women engineers to foster career growth and contribute to national advancement.

“We’re looking at platforms of collaboration as women engineers, how we can grow ourselves in terms of our career and advance the whole development of the country as well,” she stated.

Her portfolio within the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works involves overseeing the development of public infrastructure, a role vital to improving service delivery and the living standards of Zimbabwean citizens.

This includes critical spaces like schools, hospitals, and all public buildings, as well as the maintenance of approximately 44,000 existing government structures.
Beyond maintenance, Eng. Madziya is at the forefront of ambitious new projects, including the groundbreaking development of a new administrative city in Mount Hampden.

Eng. Madziya’s presence at the conference, alongside women from diverse engineering fields like manufacturing and construction, underscored the collective strength and expertise that women bring to the sector.

Her leadership in projects that directly impact public well-being exemplifies the vital contributions of accomplished female engineers in shaping Zimbabwe’s progressive future.
