Zimbabwe – In an unexpected twist at the launch of Job Sikhala’s book, “Footprints in the Chains: The Life Story of Job Sikhala,” it was Zanu PF Deputy Youth Leader Taurai Kandishaya who stole the spotlight, emerging as the highest bidder.
The event, held at SAPES Trust, drew a notable crowd including prominent opposition figures like Nelson Chamisa, Charlton Hwende, and Ibbo Mandaza.Kandishaya’s winning bid of US750 significantly overshadowed the US200 offered by Sikhala’s nephew, who served as Director of Ceremonies.
In a post detailing his attendance, Kandishaya highlighted the lack of substantial bids from opposition leaders, including Nelson Chamisa, suggesting they “didn’t seem to take Sikhala seriously.”

“Despite the event being attended by embassies stuff I stand as the highest bidder at US$750, funded by my sales of sweet potatoes and two sheep,” Kandishaya stated, emphasizing a message of local empowerment: “This gesture shows that indeed a country is built by its people (NYIKA INOVAKWA NEVEAYO) and we welcome everyone.
“He further used the platform to chide Sikhala’s international engagements, noting the absence of foreign buyers for the book. Kandishaya urged Sikhala to “reconsider your stance and join ZANU PF,” arguing that “money has colour” and that opposition leaders’ disapproval of wealth accumulation by fellow blacks stems from “jealous and double standards.”
The Zanu PF youth leader concluded by encouraging opposition youths to embrace President Mnangagwa’s empowerment initiatives.
