Activist saves Mnangagwa from Kasukuwere in a Political Firestorm on X

By Samson Jonas

An analysis of recent political exchanges in Zimbabwe reveals a sharp confrontation between two prominent figures: Saviour Kasukuwere, a former minister under the late Robert Mugabe, and activist Dr. Abigail Mupambi.

The spat, which unfolded on the social media platform X, highlights the deep-seated divisions within the country’s political landscape and Dr. Mupambi’s role as a staunch defender of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

The exchange was initiated by Kasukuwere’s terse demand, “ED MUST GO! Simple,” a declaration that encapsulates the ongoing power struggle between the former G40 faction and Mnangagwa’s government.

Kasukuwere, who has been in self-imposed exile, has consistently challenged Mnangagwa’s legitimacy and leadership, positioning himself as a potential alternative.

However, Dr. Mupambi’s response was a swift and cutting rebuke, effectively dismantling Kasukuwere’s statement with a dose of reality.

“Where?” she challenged, “As things stand yourself are Out and Gone!”

This pointed query directly addresses the irony of Kasukuwere’s position: he, a man who fled the country and was subsequently barred from running for office, is calling for the ousting of a sitting President.

Mupambi’s subsequent remarks, “We are now used to be with him! If it’s simple as you put it Come and replace him then he can possibly go!!” further solidified her position as a fighter from the Mnangagwa corner.

Her words serve as a clear attack on Kasukuwere’s perceived “power-hungry” tendencies, questioning his right to comment on the country’s leadership from afar.

She not only dismisses his apathetic call for change but also challenges his courage, implying that if he truly believes it is “simple,” he should return to Zimbabwe and face the political arena head-on.

This public confrontation between Mupambi and Kasukuwere is more than just a social media skirmish; it is a microcosm of the political battle being waged in Zimbabwe.

Mupambi’s strong defense of Mnangagwa and her pointed attacks on Kasukuwere’s political ambitions demonstrate the unwavering support the President commands from his loyalists, while simultaneously exposing the weakened and largely ineffectual nature of the opposition from exiled G40 elements.
