MDC Interim President Engineer Mudzuri Speaks on Court Judgment and Party Unity

By Political Correspondent

In a recent interview with Africa Hotspot, Engineer Mudzuri, Interim President of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), discussed the court’s judgment nullifying Douglas Mwonzora’s actions and the possibility of former leaders returning to the party.

Nullification of Mwonzora’s Actions

According to Mudzuri, the court’s judgment has restored order within the party. “The judgement nullified all that was done by Douglas Mwonzora and all the meetings he did purporting to be a congress.” Mudzuri emphasized that if Mwonzora wishes to return to the party, he will have to do so as a member, given the havoc he created.

Welcome Back to Former Leaders

When asked about Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, and Chamisa, Mudzuri said, “The door is open” for them to return to the party. He believes that MDC is the only sustained movement in Zimbabwe, and those who have defected will ultimately end up nowhere. Mudzuri emphasized the need for unity of purpose, stating that coming back together is the only way to effect meaningful change in the country.

Uniting the Party

Mudzuri expressed his commitment to uniting the party members, citing a task given to him by the late Tsvangirai to bring members together. “I want you to unite these people and take the movement forward,” Mudzuri recalled Tsvangirai saying. He believes that selfish leaders have brought the party to its current state, pursuing personal gains rather than working together for the greater good.

Moving Forward

Mudzuri used a powerful analogy to describe the need for collective leadership. “If you kill an elephant, you can’t dress it alone, you can’t carry it alone, you can’t cook it alone, you can’t eat it alone.” He emphasized that governing a country requires a team effort, and the MDC needs to work together to move forward.

With the court’s judgment providing clarity, Mudzuri is focused on rebuilding the party from grassroots levels and structures. The MDC’s future hinges on unity and collective leadership, and Mudzuri’s leadership aims to steer the party towards a brighter future.
