Zimbabwe Hosts Inaugural Good Deeds Day Africa Leaders Conference

HARARE – Good Deeds Day (GDD) Zimbabwe is proud to host the first-ever Good Deeds Day Global Conference in Harare from June 24-25, 2025, dubbed the Africa Leaders Conference. The momentous event, operating under the inspiring theme “Advancing Community Resilience through Doing Good,” has drawn leaders from across the African continent and beyond, converging to foster a continent-wide culture of kindness and volunteerism.

Eng. Joseph Munemo, Programme Co-ordinator for Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe, addressed journalists today, emphasizing the network’s core mission. “Good Deeds Day is a network primarily based on doing good,” Munemo explained. “We encourage each other to think good, act good, speak good, and do good.”

The global initiative, which began in 2007 with an Israeli family foundation, has rapidly expanded to an impressive 117 countries worldwide, with 41 African nations now part of this growing family. Zimbabwe joined in 2016 and has since played a pivotal role in championing good deeds.

Munemo highlighted that “good deeds” encompass a spectrum of actions, from simply bringing a smile to someone’s face to sharing food with the hungry. Good Deeds Day is globally commemorated in April, celebrating a year of compassionate acts.

The Harare conference, bringing together delegates, serves as a crucial platform for regional leaders to exchange experiences and strategize on promoting good deeds within their respective countries. Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe is currently formalizing its structure into an organization to align with local statutes, a testament to its growing impact.

Munemo underscored the government’s support, noting how GDD activities align with most Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those emphasizing volunteerism. “We hinge ourselves on volunteerism as ordinary layman people,” he stated, “and it is that spirit of volunteering which we are trying to exploit in each and every one of us.”

The conference aims to amplify this spirit, believing it can significantly contribute to community resilience across Africa.
