NEW YORK – The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), under the leadership of President H.E. Chief Fortune Z. Charumbira, is making significant strides at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York.
The PAP delegation is championing Africa’s digital and economic transformation, promoting the continent as a key player in global growth and value chains.
Charumbira’s engagements have centered on how governance reforms can create a favorable environment for technological innovation and investment.
Speaking at the Forward Africa Leaders Symposium 2025, held at Nasdaq, he emphasized that coherent regulation, predictable tax regimes, and harmonized standards are crucial to helping African businesses scale up and enter higher-value markets.
This message was further amplified at Unstoppable Africa 2025, a flagship forum by the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI).
The forum, co-hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the African Union Commission Chairperson, is shifting the narrative from “doing business in Africa” to “doing business with Africa.”
Charumbira used the platform to advocate for the African Union’s policies and priorities, particularly in critical sectors like digital innovation, energy, and healthcare. GABI’s launch of new Action Pathways in these areas directly aligns with PAP’s vision.
PAP’s participation at UNGA80 underscores its mandate to strengthen solidarity, cooperation, and development across the continent. By engaging in parliamentary diplomacy, the Parliament is shaping policies and international partnerships that support a robust and integrated digital economy.
The key takeaway from Charumbira’s interventions is clear: Africa’s future prosperity hinges on its ability to leverage digital transformation through strong, transparent, and innovative governance. This unified approach is essential for Africa to become a driver of global growth, not just a recipient of investment.
