One Africa, One Voice: Pan-African Parliament Boss Demands Immediate End to ‘Illegal’ Zimbabwe Sanctions

By Correspondent
Harare – The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has thrown its full weight behind Zimbabwe, issuing a powerful call for the immediate and unconditional removal of economic sanctions imposed on the nation.

On the occasion of the Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Day, 25 October 2025, PAP President H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira stated unequivocally that the punitive measures are “illegal economic sanctions” that have “undermined the country’s development and caused untold suffering to its people.”

Chief Charumbira highlighted that the embargo was imposed as a “punitive measure” following Zimbabwe’s successful land reform program, where the country “reclaimed its land and heritage from the erstwhile colonial masters.”

The statement, released on Saturday, praised Zimbabwe’s “unshakeable resilience and unity of purpose.” It also commended the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for standing firm with Zimbabwe, declaring that “no country should ever be held at ransom for asserting its sovereignty.”

‘Ubuntu’ is the Answer
While acknowledging Zimbabwe’s “sanctions-busting strategies,” the PAP President stressed that lifting the restrictions is crucial to unlocking the country’s “unbridled potential” for accelerated economic growth and prosperity across the SADC region and the continent.

In a stirring Pan-African plea, Chief Charumbira implored all 55 African Union Member States to be guided by the spirit of “Ubuntu”—the great African principle that asserts, “I am because we are.”

He urged the continent to “stand with Zimbabwe and reaffirm that none of us suffers or thrives in isolation,” making a bold declaration that Africa’s “humanity is intricately intertwined.”

The statement concluded with a powerful rallying cry for continental unity: “Let us rise as One Africa with One Voice in speaking boldly for justice for Zimbabwe and its people.” This strong stance reinforces the continent’s commitment to solidarity against measures it deems an infringement on sovereignty.
