HARARE – Zimbabwe’s theatre scene is set for a major shake-up this festive season with the launch of ‘In Search of the King’, a colossal homegrown musical set to run for six nights at the Celebration Centre.

The original production, which its creators are positioning as a new benchmark for large-scale theatre in the country, will stage its first run this weekend: Friday the 28th, Saturday the 29th, and Sunday the 30th of November 2025.

Star Power and Cinematic Scale

This ambitious show, which blends music, narrative, and bold stagecraft within a massive 3,000-seat auditorium, features an all-star cast of beloved local figures.
Gospel icon Pastor Bonnie Deuschle and award-winning singer Janet Manyowa headline the production, bringing their powerful voices and extensive stage experience to the narrative. They are joined by media personality Arthur Evans and seasoned actor Walter Tapfumaneyi, alongside a wide ensemble of professional musicians and choir members.

A Homegrown Holiday Experience

According to Event Promoter Lyncolin Kapswara of Events by GEC, the production’s goal is to deliver an “elevated” holiday experience that celebrates local talent.
“We wanted to craft a production that families can enjoy together, something warm and full of meaning, but also something that shows how far Zimbabwean theatre has come,” Kapswara stated.

He emphasized the show’s local roots and high production value, noting that every element, from the original score composed by Daniel Deuschle to the detailed set design, was created entirely at home. The creative team includes artists with both local and international careers, underpinning the musical’s artistic scope and quality.

With its mix of family-friendly themes, festive spirit, and star-studded line-up, ‘In Search of the King’ is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated cultural events of the season. Organisers anticipate high demand for the six-show run.

Tickets, which range from $15 to $100, are available for purchase at Booties Pharmacies.
