Tendai Keith Guvamombe – The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Masvingo, Hon Ezira Ruvai Chadzamira, has officially hailed the Artificial Insemination (AI) program, granted by the Indonesian government to Zimbabwe, as a significant success.
Minister Chadzamira expressed his profound appreciation for the bilateral cooperation during a courtesy visit by the Indonesian Ambassador, H.E. Arief Hidayat.
“This project proved effective and we highly appreciate the partnership between our countries. It aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, aiming for a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable middle-income economy,” the Minister stated.
Ambassador Hidayat is currently on a monitoring and evaluation mission alongside experts from Indonesia. The initial results on the ground have been highly encouraging, demonstrating the effectiveness of the AI initiative.
Reports show that nearly 90% of tests conducted on visited farms were efficient, with a notable 27 cattle confirmed pregnant at Chimombe farm alone.
Ambassador Hidayat noted the successful outcome of the partnership: “The 2024-2025 program was a success, and I plan to advocate for an extension.”
He also addressed the growing local demand for the product, adding, “As demand for Indonesian frozen semen grows, we’ll explore a business MOU between the two countries to waive duties, making it more affordable for farmers.”
The use of this method, which is successfully exported by Indonesia to over eight countries, is instrumental in curbing the spread of livestock diseases while enhancing genetics.
The program has also successfully boosted local capacity, with several Zimbabwean vets trained in Indonesia taking the lead alongside Indonesian experts in the implementation of the project.
This initiative promises to significantly improve the quality and resilience of Zimbabwe’s cattle herds, supporting agricultural growth in line with national development goals.
