The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honorable Barbara Rwodzi, has officially announced the appointment of Mrs. Prescila Charumbira to the Board of the Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company (MOTDC).

This strategic move is seen as a major step toward strengthening the infrastructure and spatial planning capabilities of the state-owned entity responsible for tourism development in the Victoria Falls region.

A Wealth of Professional Expertise

Mrs. Charumbira is a powerhouse in the field of urban development, boasting over 30 years of experience as a Town Planner. Her academic credentials are equally impressive, holding an Honors Degree in Rural and Urban Planning and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

As the current Head of Planning for the City of Harare, she has supervised a multitude of high-stakes town planning projects, navigating the complexities of urban growth and infrastructure management.

Driving the Vision for Victoria Falls

Her appointment comes at a critical time for the Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company. As the investment arm of the Ministry, MOTDC is tasked with unlocking the economic potential of the Victoria Falls tourism corridor.

Mrs. Charumbira’s specialized expertise is expected to impact the board in three key areas:

Sustainable Infrastructure: Her deep understanding of spatial planning will ensure that new tourism hubs are developed without compromising the environmental integrity of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Strategic Project Oversight: With three decades of supervising major municipal projects, she brings the technical rigor needed to oversee large-scale construction and zoning initiatives.

Integrated Urban Growth: Her dual background in planning and business administration (MBA) allows her to bridge the gap between technical design and commercial viability.

Mrs. Charumbira joins a diverse board featuring experts from various sectors. Her presence ensures that as Zimbabwe pushes for a USD 5 Billion tourism economy, the physical expansion of our premier tourist destinations remains orderly, modern, and world-class.
