Malian music legend Salif Keita has arrived in Harare ahead of the much-anticipated Ecobank Legends Night, bringing international star power to a weekend concert expected to celebrate the enduring influence of African music.
Keita touched down in the capital late Wednesday night, marking his fourth visit to Zimbabwe, and expressed his excitement at returning to a country renowned for its rich musical heritage.
The celebrated singer and songwriter said he was delighted to be back and was looking forward to reconnecting with Zimbabwean audiences when he takes to the stage at Alex Park Sports Club this weekend.
“I am very happy to be in Zimbabwe again. This is my fourth time here and I am looking forward to the show,” Keita said.
The Malian icon also promised an energetic performance, telling fans to expect “fireworks” when he takes the stage at the star-studded event.
Keita’s arrival adds an international dimension to a line-up that brings together some of the most recognisable names in African and Zimbabwean music.
He will share the stage with Congolese music veteran Yondo Sister, Zimbabwean musicians Tanga wekwaSando and Alick Macheso, as well as Intotal Band.
The concert is expected to provide a platform for audiences to experience different generations and traditions of African music in one setting, while also reinforcing Harare’s position as a destination for major live entertainment events.
Organisers are now putting the final touches to the event, with the participating artistes expected to enter rehearsals ahead of Saturday’s performance.
For Keita, whose career has spanned decades and earned him international recognition, the return to Zimbabwe is also an opportunity to renew his connection with local audiences who have followed his music over the years.
With the headline act already in the country and preparations entering their final stages, attention now turns to Alex Park Sports Club, where the Ecobank Legends Night is expected to bring together music lovers for a celebration of African musical heritage.
