The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has expressed deep concern following a violent head-on collision along Glen Eagles Road on Wednesday evening. The crash, which occurred near Eaglesvale Primary School, involved a commercial truck and an commuter omnibus (kombi) heading toward Budiriro 4 and 5.
According to preliminary reports released at the scene, the impact left all kombi passengers with serious injuries, while the kombi driver remains in a very critical condition. Emergency services responded to the site, and all injured individuals were rushed to nearby medical facilities. As of late Wednesday evening, authorities have not confirmed any fatalities.
In a statement issued by the National Co-ordinator, PAZ extended its sympathies to the victims and their families. Recognizing the anxiety surrounding the incident, the association urged residents whose family members commute along the Budiriro 4 and 5 routes to reach out and check on their loved ones.
”We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all the injured passengers and their families during this difficult time, and we wish every victim a speedy and full recovery,” PAZ stated.
The association has formally petitioned the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to conduct a thorough investigation into the crash to establish its root cause, including potential factors such as road conditions, vehicle roadworthiness, or driver fatigue. Highlighting the heightened hazards of evening travel, PAZ reiterated the urgent need for stricter adherence to road safety protocols across the public transport sector.
”We remind all motorists and public transport operators to exercise extreme caution, strictly observe speed limits, and respect road regulations, particularly during peak evening hours when traffic congestion and visibility present higher risks,” the statement read.
As an organization dedicated to commuter safety, PAZ reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for safer transit systems across the nation. The association confirmed that it will continue monitoring the progress of the injured passengers and provide public updates as official information becomes available from law enforcement and medical authorities.
