Zimbabwe Gender Commission launches 90 Day Campaign to address Intimate Partner Violence

Following the the appalling statistics on gender based violence in the country, the Zimbabwe Gender Commission will be embarking on a three months Campaign aimed at tackling cases of Intimate Partner Violence.

The campaign is set to run from October to December of 2026 and this will see the Zimbabwe Gender Commission partnering Government, Development Partners, Media and many other sectors in a series of activities that will be held until end of December 2026.

Addressing journalists at a press conference held this Friday in the capital Chairperson of Zimbabwe Gender Commission Dr Leslie Ncube GCZ said the commission decided to embark on the campaign following the increase in Intimate Partner Violence in the country.

“We have seen an urgent need for a national response mechanism to address Intimate Partner Violence. Increase in Intimate Partner Violence has led to the lose of life. The 90 day campaign will start from October to December 2026 bringing together government, development partners and traditional leaders aboard. “

” There are more than 8000 cases that were reported. This include sexual based violence. People remain silent to report due to fear among other issues. This therefore calls for for urgent national response. Intimate Partner Violence affects young girls and boys,” he added.

The Zimbabwe Gender Commission continues to urge communities to be proactive in reporting cases of Intimate Partner Violence. The commission also established that there are a number of cases of IPV that are not being reported due to fear, lack of knowledge and victimization among families.
