Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Issues Urgent Warning Over Social Media Job Scams

By Tendai Keith Guvamombe

In an era where digital connectivity is at its peak, so too is the ingenuity of opportunistic scammers. On April 12, 2026, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) took a firm stand against a wave of fraudulent recruitment notices currently flooding social media platforms.

These deceptive posts, which have been widely circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook, falsely claim to offer lucrative employment opportunities within the hospitality sector, specifically targeting hopeful job seekers looking to work in the Victoria Falls region.

The fraudulent advertisements brazenly utilize the ZTA’s official seal and branding to lend an air of undeserved legitimacy to their claims. They list various positions—ranging from hospitality staff and chefs to drivers—purportedly available for an April 2026 intake at the “Royal Safari Lodge” or “Royal Zambezi Lodge (Victoria Falls Zimbabwe Branch).”

However, the red flags are numerous: the notices direct applicants to suspicious email addresses and a physical address located in Lusaka, Zambia, for jobs allegedly based in Zimbabwe. This geographical mismatch is a classic hallmark of international recruitment fraud designed to exploit the unwary.

In a swift rebuttal, the ZTA has categorically disassociated itself from these notices. The Authority clarified that it has not authorized the use of its logo or name for any such recruitment drive. Crucially, the ZTA reminded the public that its primary mandate is the promotion and regulation of tourism, not acting as a recruitment agency for private lodges.

Any entity claiming otherwise is misrepresenting the Authority’s role. This serves as a vital reminder that official branding on a PDF or a social media graphic does not automatically equate to authenticity.

The ZTA urges the public to exercise extreme caution and treat these advertisements as scams. To verify tourism industry vacancies or ZTA programmes, citizens should only rely on official channels.

For legitimate inquiries, urges stakeholders to contact the Corporate Affairs Department via their website at www.zimbabwetourism.net, email pr@ztazim.co.zw, or call +263 (242) 758712-4.

In an economy where every opportunity counts, the best defense against fraud is a healthy dose of skepticism and a commitment to verifying information directly at the source. Stay vigilant and protect your personal information from these predatory schemes.
