Mt Darwin – Chief Nembire, dressed in a red shirt, visited Binga Primary School in the Mutungagore settlement to plant a tree as a symbol of hope and a way forward after years of stalled construction at the school.
During his keynote address The Chief expressed deep concern over the learning environment. As he toured the premises, he was saddened to find children being taught in tobacco grading sheds that had been modified into classrooms. He described the structures as unsuitable and unsafe for children’s health.
“We must protect the livelihoods of our children because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” Chief Nembire said. “I was angry seeing our children learning under such conditions.” As President Emmerson Mnangagwa always said “Nyika Inovakwa nevene vayo” we are the custodian of our destiny, so let’s play a role in developing our nation.
The traditional leader has tasked his village heads to hold urgent meetings with parents at village level. He set a target for communities to begin working in groups as soo as possible to construct teachers’ houses at the new school site. One standard classroom block is already complete there, with another at roofing level.
Chief Nembire called on companies, organizations, and individuals to join hands in building Binga Primary, which has an enrollment of approximately 300 pupils and nine teachers.
“We have generous teachers who have sacrificed their talent at such an undesirable, shabby, out-of-the-way school,” he said. “It is time we give them and our children the facilities they deserve.”
The Chief promised to return soon to monitor progress on the construction.
Also present were Mr. Masawi from the District Education Office, School Head Mr. Sigauke, the Deputy Head, Senior Teacher, TIC, SDC Chairperson Mr. M .Kamba, Councillor Rupende of Ward 18, Ward 19 , Mr. Kabondo representing Hon. Jonga of Mt Darwin West Constituency, Village Heads, and the majority of community members.
Chief Nembire a Traditional Leader, a retired qualified teacher who saved in the ministry of education for so many years ,an experienced Chief with a long service in the Chieftainship and a prolonged Senatorial post sitting Parliament .
