Ciryl Gane captured the interim UFC heavyweight championship in devastating fashion, executing a flawless second-round TKO against light heavyweight kingpin Alex “Chama” Pereira at UFC Freedom 250. Pereira, who was bidding to become the first three-division champion in UFC history, opened aggressively but ultimately succumbed to the Frenchman’s technical superiority and lethal precision.
After navigating a tricky opening round filled with Pereira’s signature calf kicks and heavy feints, Gane found his rhythm in the second stanza. The decisive moment came early in the round when Gane landed a crisp, powerful jab that sent the Brazilian crashing to the canvas. Though a resilient Pereira scrambled back to his feet, he remained visibly rocked and unable to adequately defend himself. Referee Herb Dean stepped in to halt the bout at the 1:24 mark as Gane unleashed a relentless second wave of strikes, capping off a masterclass performance.

With the interim strap firmly around his waist, Gane wasted no time addressing the unresolved business at the top of the heavyweight division. During his post-fight interview, the newly crowned interim champion threw down the gauntlet, calling out undisputed heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall for a highly anticipated unification showdown in Paris this coming September.
The callout sets the stage for a bitter grudge match. The two elite heavyweights previously clashed at UFC 321, but the highly anticipated bout ended in a disappointing first-round no-contest. Just over a minute into that fight, Gane accidentally delivered a severe double eye poke that left Aspinall bloodied, unable to see, and requiring multiple surgical procedures. Aspinall, who has openly labeled Gane a cheater since the incident, quickly accepted the challenge from the sidelines, stating he has no problem traveling to hostile territory to settle the score once and for all.
