HARARE — Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has secured fresh continental recognition, with her nomination for the Unstoppable Cabinet Minister of the Year 2026 Award adding to growing attention on Zimbabwe’s efforts to expand the tourism sector.
Rwodzi is among Cabinet Ministers from across Africa nominated for the award, which recognises leadership associated with administrative reforms, policy implementation and development initiatives.
The nomination comes as Zimbabwe seeks to strengthen tourism’s contribution to the national economy through increased investment, destination marketing, infrastructure development, product diversification and the promotion of domestic tourism.
The Government has identified tourism as a key contributor to economic growth and employment, with efforts also focused on ensuring that communities benefit from the country’s natural, cultural and heritage attractions.
Rwodzi’s recognition comes against this broader push to position Zimbabwe as a competitive tourism destination and increase the sector’s contribution to national development.
The latest nomination places the Minister’s work under renewed continental scrutiny, while also putting Zimbabwe’s tourism development agenda in the spotlight alongside initiatives being pursued by tourism authorities and industry players.
The Unstoppable African Awards are scheduled to recognise Cabinet Ministers from across the continent in 2026, with Rwodzi featuring in the Cabinet Minister of the Year category.
