Masvingo residents has come out guns blazing following unsanctioned recall of three Chiefs – Charumbira, Chitanga and Nhema during an unsanctioned meeting held under the guise of Provincial Chiefs Assembly.
This came to light during a Kobo Movement live podcast held on Wednesday evening. According to Kobo real name Elisha Ruhinga he is deeply disheartened by the corrupt ways used by a certain Headman to recall the Chiefs from the Provincial Council. Kobo himself is concerned about the developments in Masvingo which happens to be his home province.
“I am not happy with the way they recalled our Chiefs in Masvingo. This shows that those who did it have no respect what so ever to our traditional Chiefs. A Chief is not elected but are chosen by thier ancestors to lead the people. So none has authority above the ancestors to appoint or remove a clan Chief from his position. Therefore you cannot continue using the imposed Western Colonial laws to undermine traditional customary norms and values. “
“A certain Headman whom i have not mentioned by name – allegedly went on to bribe all Provincial Chiefs with USD 10 000 to facilitate a motion for the recall of Chief Nhema, Chief Charumbira and Chief Chitanga. This was held in a dubious caucus. How does a mere Headman (Sabhuku) do such a thing in our country. As a matter of fact, this thing of recalling Chiefs from Parliament is the first of its kind in the history our country and it is very wrong. “
Kobo alleges that there is no law in Zimbabwe that provides for the recall of Chiefs adding that people acted out of ignorance.
“The three Chiefs were recalled with giving any clarity or reason. Apart from this we have no law in our constitution that speaks on the recalling of Chiefs from Parliament. What we know is that Chiefs when they are in Parliament they are representing people from their communities. So the bogus meeting undermined communities that are under these Chiefs. This shows that the call was dubious and corruptly driven, he added.
During the same podcast a certain man from Bondolfi revealed that a new Chief was appointed in the Charumbira a move that has stirred confusion in Masvingo Province.
” I would like to support what Kobo Movement said in this podcast. I am from Bondolfi here in Masvingo. They appointed a new Chief from nowhere in the Charumbira area. To us this is wrong.”
