Future-Proofing Zimbabwe: Tourism Stakeholders Chart a Bold Path at HAZ 2025 Congress

The Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) 2025 Congress recently concluded at Cresta Lodge , uniting industry leaders under the strategic theme, “Future-Proofing Hospitality and Tourism in Zimbabwe.” The event served as a critical platform to align the sector’s growth strategies with the national ambition of achieving an empowered upper middle-income society by 2030 (Vision 2030).

Government’s Call to Action:

The Five Pillars of ResilienceOfficiating on behalf of Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, the Permanent Secretary Dr. Takaruza Munyanyiwa delivered a firm call to action, emphasizing that tourism is not merely a leisure pursuit but a strategic pillar for national development.

The Ministry outlined five key pillars essential for building a resilient and competitive destination:

* Digital Transformation: Embracing data-driven systems and immersive technology to enhance the visitor experience and operational efficiency.

* Sustainability and Climate Resilience: Protecting Zimbabwe’s natural and cultural heritage while adapting to global climate change challenges.

* Human Capital Development: Investing in a skilled, ethical, and service-oriented workforce.

* Infrastructure and Connectivity: Enhancing both physical (roads, airports) and digital infrastructure to facilitate seamless travel.

* Branding and Marketing: Strategically promoting Zimbabwe’s diverse offerings on the global stage.The message was clear: close collaboration between the Government and the Private sector is non-negotiable for achieving long-term, sustainable growth.

Celebrating Global Acclaim and Urging Innovation

HAZ President Ms. Emmah Kativu welcomed delegates with an air of optimism, underscoring the urgency for innovation to meet the rapidly evolving global tourism landscape.

She celebrated Zimbabwe’s recent spike in international recognition, which includes being named Forbes World’s Number One Destination in 2025 and Victoria Falls being a Condé Nast Traveller must-visit destination for 2026.

Ms. Kativu also congratulated Minister Rwodzi on her election as Vice President of the UN Tourism General Assembly, a milestone that significantly elevates Zimbabwe’s influence and visibility on the global stage.

She urged participants to leverage the Congress to share insights, strengthen partnerships, and shape collective strategies, ultimately aiming to position Zimbabwe as one of Africa’s most competitive and culturally vibrant destinations.

The Congress reinforced the sector’s dedication to the national #ZimBho campaign, cementing the consensus that a collaborative, innovative, and resilient approach is vital for future-proofing the industry.
