BREAKING NEWS: Ex-DANet Manicaland Boss Wilson Masokovere and Treasurer Temba Sauramba Arrested Over $2 Million Housing Fraud

By Manicaland News Desk

MUTARE — Law enforcement agents have arrested the former Destiny of Afrika Network (DANet) Provincial Manager for Manicaland, Wilson Masokovere, alongside the Former treasurer, Temba Sauramba—popularly known as “Shumba”—over massive corruption allegations involving theft of property valued at nearly US$2 million.

The duo is currently detained at Mutare Central Police Station under case reference ZRP Mutare Central CR. 188/07/2026, facing two main counts of Theft of Trust Property, with senior police sources indicating that additional charges are expected as more victims come forward.

According to police case details:
Count 1: Involves the sum of US$189,000.00, representing unauthorized withdrawals and misappropriation from the Destiny of Afrika Network CBZ bank account.
Count 2: Involves an intrinsic value of US$1,800,000.00, linked to the illegal allocation, looting, and fraudulent sale of residential stands, vehicles, and other movable assets belonging to the housing development trust.

Defiance of High Court Orders
The arrest follows years of intense legal battles between Masokowere and the core leadership of DANet, led by its Founder and President, Rev Dr Obadiah Musindo.

Authorities report that Masokowere, who officially ceased to be a trustee of the organization in 2022 following high-level judicial rulings, continuously defied legal directives and forcibly maintained control of DANet’s regional office in Mutare.

A senior Destiny of Afrika Network official confirmed that the long-overdue police intervention came after Masokowere exhausted all legal appeals to remain in office.

”Masokovere is facing so many allegations for swindling or looting stands, cash and movable properties such as cars from Destiny of Afrika Network,” the DANet official stated. “His arrest follows after he lost so many court battles. He was doing everything to make sure that Destiny of Afrika Network doesn’t have any access to its Mutare office. Wilson Masokowere was a trustee but he seized to be a Trustee in 2022. He was now functioning in the Office as a worker since February through Courts. He attempted to make appeals which he lost. The Justice Mambara Judgement in one of his appeals was clear that he was no longer a Trustee.”

The official added that Masokovere had relied heavily on political connections and local intimidation tactics to retain illegal control over the trust’s administrative machinery.
”All along Masokowere had been committing crime where he remained in office when in law he was no longer permitted as provided for by the highest Court in the Country,” the official said. “He defied court orders hoping that his political thugs will come to his rescue. He sought to get a backup from his personal connections that he allocated stands in his individualistic capacity outside the authority of Destiny of Afrika Network.”

Many HomeSeekers Swindled

Investigations revealed that many bona-fide DANet members were stripped of their allocated land despite having contributed monthly subscriptions over several years. Masokovere allegedly created an illegal parallel sales scheme, taking land intended for long-serving subscribers and selling it outright to high-paying cash clients.

”Under DANet policy we don’t sell stands but stands are acquired through subscriptions that are constantly paid over a certain period of time,” explained the official.

“He extended the stands to his own cash clients a move that is against DANet policy. These stands were sold to people who fell short in DANet mode of operation. He also used Destiny funds to finance his lawyers. All these he was doing without authority of DANet.”

The official further detailed how Masokowere ran a rogue operation without administrative oversight or financial checks:

”He made too many independent decisions which leads to corruption. He self appointed himself to oversee administrative issues. He would choose suppliers by himself and pay them by himself as well. He went on to appoint his own auditors to audit himself. The war started in 2022 when DANet leadership demanded a Forensic Audit which he resisted.”

Many of the defrauded housing scheme members had made substantial financial outlays without receiving the properties or mandatory refunds.

”The majority of the members whom he defrauded of their stands had paid their USD 2000, 3000 and some USD 4000 and USD 5000—they all lost their stands,” the official lamented. “Instead of following DANet policy to refund these people their money he did not do so. The policy is clear and provides for the refund of payments in the case of a member failing to get his/her stand.

So many people who lost their stands are making appeals to DANet Founder and President Rev Dr Obedia Musindo. This is what prompted DANet to take legal action.”

Attempted Bribes and Expected Flood of Claims
Prior to his arrest, Masokowere reportedly attempted to solicit political backing by offering land allocations to state personnel and politicians, most of whom turned down the offers.

”He tried to bribe some politicians with stands who declined all his offers. He also tried to bribe Government officials who declined to accept his stands except few individuals accepted the stands,” revealed the official.

With Masokowere and Sauramba now in custody at Mutare Police Station, officials anticipate a surge in formal reports from previously intimidated victims.

”There are so many people who wanted to make complaints against him but they were afraid of being intimidated by his thugs. Following his arrest, revelations are that Mutare Police Complaints Desk will be flooded with complaints against him,” the official noted, adding that “more charges are coming—this is just the beginning.”

Masokowere and Sauramba are expected to appear before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court shortly to answer to the initial two counts of theft of trust property. Police investigations remain active.
