His Worship the Mayor., Cllr Jacob Mafume yesterday took time off to watch the One Day international cricket match between Zimbabwe and Australia at Harare Sports Club, together with Australian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E Ms Minoli Perera.
The game was the 3rd and final ODI of the Australia Tour of Zimbabwe (Sept 15, 18 & 20), Australia’s first ODI series here in over 10 years and key build-up to the 2027 World Cup that Zimbabwe will co-host.
After the match, Mayor Mafume presented the Player of the Match award while Ambassador Perera presented the Player of the Series award, capping a memorable day of cricket diplomacy at Harare Sports Club.
Australia completed a 3-0 whitewash of the three-match series, having won the first two ODIs before sealing the rout today.
Australia’s presence was a big boost – showing Harare is safe and ready to host world-class sport, boosting tourism and business, and strengthening Zimbabwe-Australia relations. It fits well into the Mayor’s vision of Harare as a World Class Sporting City.
