In a dramatic turn of events that has sent shockwaves through the Zimbabwean football landscape, flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo, popularly known as Sir Wicknell, has turned a moment of mockery into a massive windfall for Dynamos FC. Despite the “Glamour Boys” suffering a defeat against their arch-rivals CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium, Chivayo has pledged a brand-new 65-seater luxury bus and a staggering USD$50,000 cash injection for the players.
The gesture comes as a direct response to what Chivayo described as “unnecessary mockery” and “ridicule” directed at him during the high-stakes derby.
While CAPS United fans celebrated their victory on the pitch, many took the opportunity to jeer at Chivayo and his associate, Scott Sakupwanya, regarding a pre-match promise Chivayo made on Capitalk FM.

A supporter had challenged the businessman to buy the team a bus if they won; when they lost, the stadium erupted with taunts suggesting the deal was off.
However, the businessman took to social media to reprimand the naysayers, asserting that his integrity is not dependent on a scoreboard. “I refuse to reduce myself into someone who only stands by his word when circumstances are favourable,” Chivayo stated, doubling down on his commitment to the historic club.
He noted that Dynamos remains a household name and part of the nation’s fabric, second only to ZANU PF in historical significance.
Beyond the physical bus, the USD$50,000 motivation bonus for the players serves as a sharp retort to those who doubted his financial muscle. Chivayo expressed disappointment at the lack of respect shown by locals compared to the “red carpet” treatment he receives abroad, citing the proverb that a prophet is never honored in his own home.
By awarding the losing side such a significant prize, Sir Wicknell has effectively silenced the hecklers, proving that for him, the Glamour in the Glamour Boys is non-negotiable, regardless of the match result.
